Sierra Harvest needs Tuesday Volunteers!

Tuesdays are for volunteering at Food Love Farm! What beautiful weather we’ve had this week, all the better for starting spring seeds. Yesterday we had volunteers plant lettuce, spinach, peas, tatsoi, chard and arugula. Come out and join us on an upcoming Tuesday from 10-2 pm or anytime in between.

Volunteer jobs vary by the season and even by the week. Be prepared to dig, plant, weed, and more!

Superheroes For Prevention Community Barbecue!

April is Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month, and with that The Child Abuse Prevention Council of Western Nevada County (CAPC) is hosting the 2nd Annual Superheroes for Prevention Community BBQ.

We invite you to wear your favorite superhero costume, shirt, cape, or come as you are & join us for a FREE fun-filled day, run through & play games in giant blue foam bubbles, facepainting by the wonderfully talented Donya, super cool balloon twisting by Twistin Tim, meet & take pictures with superheroes, enjoy a free tasty BBQ lunch featuring food items from local grocers & Nevada County Free Range Beef!

**Please bring a change of dry clothes and a towel if you’d like dry off after enjoying the giant foam bubbles.**

Head’s up for our friends with CalFresh benefits: the timely reporting requirement for CalFresh replacement benefits has been waived for Nevada County residents affected by the recent storm. This means you can replace food lost during power outages caused by the March 1st storm system without worrying about deadlines.

The waiver is valid until April 1st, 2024. If you’ve lost food due to the storms, don’t hesitate to apply for replacement benefits through various channels:

South Yuba River Citizens League Youth Scholarship

The Environmentalist of the Year Scholarship is offered each year to a graduating high school senior pursuing a degree in an environmental field (science, advocacy, education, art, communication, technology, sustainability, etc.). We have offered this $4,000 scholarship ($1,000/year for four years) annually to local students since 2002.
