Happening this week: A Dialogue about Children Living in Poverty, airs Tuesday, September 28 3pm ET.
Discover root causes of children living in poverty and strategies to help reducing poverty is necessary for a healthy society. As poverty escalates, economic growth slows. Children growing up in poverty are more likely to experience poor educational and health outcomes, and are less likely to thrive in adulthood.
Even in the healthiest counties, about 1 in 10 children live in poverty with Black, Hispanic, and Native American children experiencing poverty at twice the rate of white children. Poverty can be overlooked in these counties where averages can hide the need to take action. In this webinar, the CHR&R Data and Analytics Team Leader, Christine Muganda, will introduce us to a new County Health Rankings data tool that allows you to explore differences in poverty rates by race in the healthiest counties. We will also have a frank conversation with David Riemer, Senior Fellow at the Community Advocates Public Policy Institute in Milwaukee, about what lies at the root of poverty and strategies to advance equity in all counties so that all residents enjoy the opportunity to thrive.
