Stay Out, Stay Alive: Partners Come Together to Highlight River Safety
Local, state, and federal agencies and nonprofits came together this week at the South Yuba River to encourage residents and visitors to stay out of the river and stay alive. The event included a river rescue training by Nevada County Consolidated Fire District and California Highway Patrol.
Due to significant rain and melting snowpack, current high flows have already taken one life this year and are modeling similarly to high river flows in 2019, when multiple lives were lost in June alone due to visitors and locals recreating in dangerous river conditions.
