Seeking stories for “Shelter Dogs” podcast, produced by former foster youth

Thanks to our partner Morgan Welty at Nevada County Superintendent of Schools for this information.

We are the “Shelter Dogs”. Controversial? We hope so.

We are a group of former foster youth who have been in the child welfare system for several years. We each have experienced this journey in our own way and with our own stories. We were asked in early 2019 to share our opinion about the information that is used to train resource families in our county and we had a true ah ha moment that led us to create this podcast. We realized that there were gaps in understanding foster care. We realized how much we have to offer in building bridges to close those gaps and we have since built this platform to share information. We are happy to be able to share our stories and give our feedback to foster youth, foster parents, social workers and community members. We consist of mothers, sons, daughters, single, married, employed, students, pet owners, friends and we all have a common theme of being in foster care at some point during our lives. We continue to learn so much about life and about each other and we want to learn more about our community and the members in it.

Please tell us your story, your successes, your hardships, what you want to hear us discuss and if you want to be a guest on our podcast. Email us at shelterdogs2020@gmail.com. Also check out our Facebook page here.
