Many thanks to Charlene Weiss-Wenzl, Public Health Nurse, Nevada County Public Health Department, who presented at our February 6th meeting, Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health: Community Input.
Char gave us a great overview of the current state of maternal, child, and adolescent health in Nevada County and what the needs and hopes are for the future. We had the chance to fill out a survey to inform the work of the Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health program (MCAH).
The MCAH program was enacted as part of the Social Security Act to improve health, safety and well-being of mothers and children, including children with special health care needs. Every five years the program is required by the state and federal governments to do a needs assessment to determine local priorities for the maternal, child, and adolescent population.
