Message from the Board

Hello Community Partners,

February is National Parent Leadership Month. National Parent leadership Month is a time to raise awareness of the important role that parents play not only in the lives of their children, but also in their communities. The last two years have been especially difficult, and parents need encouragement and support now more than ever! Many are balancing working from home, childcare, health, and uncertain times.

Parent Leadership strengthens families and prevents child maltreatment. When parents become more involved in their communities, they make social connections with supportive people who can help them through difficult situations and keep them from feeling isolated. Research has shown that these social connections strongly contribute to mitigating child abuse and neglect.

A Parent Leader is someone who is passionate about making a difference and represents the needs and perspectives of all parents in the community. They become role models for parent engagement and advocating, not only for their own families, but for other families too.

Know a Parent Leader who goes above and beyond for their family and community? Nominate them for the Office of Child Abuse Prevention (OCAP) Parent Leadership Award! Help honor parents for the work they do to improve their communities for all families!
