Message from the Board

Good Morning Community Partners,

We want to extend a huge Thank You to everyone who participated in our December Community Support Network meeting. We learned about the exciting work that Nevada County supportive service programs are doing and ways that all of the community-based programs are currently collaborating together. Our next meeting is January 5, 2022. You can click here to register for next year’s meetings.

Our highlighted program this week is the Sierra Community Medical Foundation.  Sierra Community Medical Foundation was created in light of a need for better care for our community. Founded out of the Placer-Nevada County Medical Society, SCMF is driven by the passion of our community’s physicians who want to address the gaps in medical services that people face. Prior to SCMF’s existence, an opioid coalition was established for Placer and Nevada Counties to counter the persistent epidemic. They formed a second coalition dedicated to addressing Adverse Childhood Experiences, or ACEs.  Importantly, ACEs and drug misuse have a strong relationship with each other, so having an organization that is working on both issues at once is extremely valuable to our community.

SCMF works with a multitude of agencies, industries, and communities all at the same time. They provide and promote programs to assist in public health crises and collaborate across populations within our communities. Their physician-led nonprofit helps connect professionals and community members, facilitating a better stream of communication and more effective delivery of health information.

Now through December 20th, SCMF is running a drive for new or gently used coats and other winter gear (hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, etc.) ranging from infant-adult sizes. If you are interested in donating coats or winter items to the cause, please contact Michele Onatanian at michele@pncms.org or Molly Greenblat at rxdrugsafety@gmail.com to coordinate collection.
