Message from the Board

Hello Valued Community Partners,

The end of the fiscal year marks a changing of guards for the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Western Nevada County and the Community Support Network. After 3 years on the board and 2 years as CAPC Board Chair, our fearless leader and Chair, Laura Harter, is stepping back. Throughout her tenure as Chair, Laura has led the CAPC Board and CSN in many activities and initiatives to further the prevention of child abuse in Nevada County. Most recently, she helped the Board weather the pandemic; constantly keeping her eye on the needs of children, families, and the community. During the shutdown, Laura engaged the support of Strategies TA in assisting our Board in starting to develop a Child Abuse Prevention Plan that will align with the work of Nevada County Child Welfare; and the utilization of the Building Community Resilience framework to serve as our North Star for this work.

We will always be grateful for Laura’s contribution to the Board and the Community Support Network – and we’re very happy that she will continue to lend her expertise as a Board member.

While I am daunted by the big shoes I am charged to fill, I am excited to assume my new role as Chair of the CAPC Board beginning July 1, 2021. I am excited to take on the torch of prevention planning and Building Community Resilience. Additionally, Eli Gallup from NCSOS will serve as Vice Chair and Treasurer; and Dena Malakian from Bright Futures for Youth will serve as Secretary.

Please join us for our Community Support Network meeting on July 7th at 3:30pm to learn more about CSN Partnership and all of our exciting work. The agenda can be found here and the link to the meeting here. We look forward to having you join us as we continue this exciting work. If you have any questions or comments, please email Alyssa Burke at csnnc@gmail.com
