Each Mind Matters stands alongside those fighting for equality in our country. The tragic loss of Black lives, including the recent homicide of George Floyd, is rooted in a history of systemic racism that impacts the mental health of our communities — particularly communities of color — profoundly. If you are struggling right now, what you are going through is real and valid.
In the days to come, Each Mind Matters will continue to share resources and stories to support mental health, including those for Black and African American communities, as part of our commitment to improved mental health and equality for all Californians.
Based on learnings and insights from experts in Black mental health, Psych Hub has compiled a list of resources for understanding the intersection of race, racism and mental health. Included in this list are materials for educators, books, organizations and more resources for supporting Black communities. Click here to access the list.
EMM is also supporting Pride Month, celebrated each June to promote acceptance, self-affirmation and equality for the LGBTQIA+ community, with a variety of mental health resources. According to a report by Mental Health America, 86% of LGBTQIA+ youth ages 11-17 screened positive or moderate to severe for a mental health condition, the highest rate of all age groups of LGBTQIA+ individuals. Read the report here.
More resources, including videos, material downloads and more, are available here: Pride Month Collection on the EMM Resource Center.
