Red Flag Warning Issued for Eastern Nevada County

Eastern Nevada County has been issued a Red Flag Warning, the highest alert for fire danger, by the National Weather Service (NWS).

NWS is saying this is a particularly dangerous situation with extremely low humidity and high winds. New fires will grow rapidly out of control, in some cases people may not be able to evacuate safely in time should a fire approach.

It is extremely important for residents to be prepared to evacuate if necessary, and have a go bag ready. Find preparedness resources and guides online on CAL FIRE’s Ready for Wildfire website, and Nevada County Fire Season Guide.

Residents can also help prevent fires. Be fire safe by avoiding outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation such as yard work with lawnmowers or power equipment that creates sparks, target shooting, or campfires. Make sure to follow local fire restrictions.

For residents who live in the unincorporated areas near Truckee and in Eastern Nevada County, remember to sign up for CodeRED Emergency Alerts. CodeRED Emergency Alerts notify residents when an emergency event, such as an evacuation, is happening in their neighborhood.

Visit National Weather Service Reno’s website for weather updates on the Red Flag Warning.
