Nevada County Habitat for Humanity (NCHFH) is one of more than 230 Habitat for Humanity affiliates awarded a grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation as part of its nationwide initiative to help low to moderate income families build and improve their homes across the U.S.
NCHFH received a $20,000 grant to help build homes in Grass Valley. A 4 home Habitat project near Memorial Park has 2 homes that are completed and owner-occupied. These funds will help complete the 2 remaining homes in the neighborhood.
In California over 80% of low-income households spend over half of their monthly budget on housing and the number of Nevada County families who are struggling to afford rent is on the rise. With a median home price in Nevada County over $600,000, homeownership is out of reach for residents making less than $80,000 per year. Nevada County Habitat for Humanity is currently the only provider of low-income homeownership opportunities in our community.
