For many former foster youth, transitioning to independence means overcoming significant challenges—especially transportation. Without a reliable ride, getting to school or work can feel impossible.
That’s where Beyond the Barriers California steps in. Co-founded by Deputy Probation Officer Karyn Mueller and Foster Youth Specialist Helena Heinzelman (pictured at right), the nonprofit provides donated cars, covers vehicle repairs, offers roadside assistance, and provides vehicle education to youth ages 18-25.
Thanks to community support, they raised over $7,600 in December, with matching grants from Dutch Bros Coffee and Certified Automotive Repair in Grass Valley.
They’re now aiming to raise $10,000 to continue this vital work. Want to help?
