Winter Storm Recovery Resources

Winter Storm Recovery Resources

As residents continue to recover from the February/March 2023 winter storms, Nevada County has created a one-stop-shop website with information on local, state, and federal recovery resources for individuals and businesses.

Go to ReadyNevadaCounty.org/StormRecovery for information on resources like:

  • CalFresh Replacement Benefits (claims must be submitted by March 30th!)
  • Property Tax Relief
  • Building Permit Fee Waivers

Nevada County residents with property loss or damage are strongly encouraged to complete our Storm Survey to help us advocate for state and federal support.

If you are a local business owner, please complete our Business Impact Survey. This will help our Office of Emergency Services assess overall damage and needs so that we can advocate for state and federal assistance.

Lesson Learned from Snowmageddon 2!

Interfaith Food ministry’s Lessons learned.

The recent snowstorm continues to impact thousands of residents in Nevada County. Many are still without power and roads are inaccessible. Throughout all of this, we once again recognize the spirit of our communities. Neighbors helping neighbors, total strangers ready to lend a hand, and all of our government and non-profit services coming together to help those in need.

Our volunteers continue to show up and make sure our clients are getting their food. It takes a tremendous amount of coordination to service the 150 plus cars a day, and our volunteers do it will energy and compassion!

KCRA and ABC 10 recently came to IFM and highlighted our wonderful volunteers and staff. KQED did a phone-in interview with Executive Director Phil Alonso.Click on the links to view the coverage.

Last week, the Nevada County Office of Emergency Services staff led by Craig Griesbach, the Grass Valley Ladies Relief Society and the Little Town of Washington Fire Department, led by Chief Mike Stewart distributed food from IFM to residents who couldn’t get down the hill. Those families who couldn’t get to the fire department got deliveries from the LTW Volunteer Fire Department!

Hospitality House Now Offering Adult Education Classes

Hospitality House is now offering complimentary adult health and wellness, and skill-building classes to residents of Brunswick Commons, a community housing project made possible in partnership with County of Nevada; Regional Housing Authority; and property management company, Cambridge Real Estate Group, to name a few. Just months since the doors first opened, all residents now have an opportunity to take classes designed to contribute to their long-term housing success.
“Research has shown that the skills most helpful in ensuring sustainable housing address time management, financial planning, and workforce
development,” said Hospitality House Case Manager, Miranda Gorder. “However, physical and emotional health are also critical to a person’s well-being, and their ability to maintain a job, relationships and a home.”
With this data in mind, a well-rounded curriculum was created to meet the unique needs of a wide variety of residents.

Race and Equity Training Series

Race and Equity Training Series
Presenter: Franklin Hysten of Blaze Consulting Group
The work of moving towards anti-racism in organizations calls on leaders to explore the role of allies in organizational culture.  In our last session, we asked ourselves, “How do we differentiate between White Saviorism and White Allyship as we go about our mission-driven work?” What part of this dynamic is about our individual leadership and what part connects to our organizational mission?

In this session, we will explore the complexity of allyship. We will name two forces that push us into White Saviorism and name guiding principles to counter its impact. Come ready to co-create a brave space to discuss our own practice and beliefs as we chart new pathways. This session welcomes the participation of all members of our human-serving community.
