Library Hosts Living Room Conversations

Last week Nevada County’s Equity & Inclusion Leadership Alliance (EILA) hosted a County-wide Virtual Half Day Cultural Competency Workshop, The Hidden Biases of Good People:  Implicit Bias Awareness.

In order to support and continue this important community-wide conversation, Nevada County Community Library is hosting an online event series, Living Room Conversations.

Living Room Conversations provide an easy structure for engaging in friendly yet meaningful conversation with those with whom we may not agree. These conversations increase understanding, reveal common ground, and sometimes even allow us to discuss possible solutions.   Please join us on October 26 at 5:30 p.m. for the Nevada County Community Library Living Room Conversation on Race.

Upcoming Living Room Conversation Schedule (All discussions begin at 5:30)

October 26th: Race

November 2nd: Ethnicity

November 9th: Race & Ethnicity Wrap Up

November 23rd: Post Election – What’s next?

December 21st: Increasing Harmony and Prosperity

Additionally, Nevada County Community Library hosts a monthly Diverse Perspectives Book Club.  The Diverse Perspectives Book Club provides our community the opportunity to learn about various cultures, ideas, and new perspectives.  Each month’s selection has a timely, relevant theme.  October’s book, “America is not the Heart,” by Elaine Castillo, was chosen in honor of Filipino American History Month.  The Diverse Perspectives Book Group meets the first Tuesday of every month at noon.

“The library is proud to provide an opportunity for our community to continue these conversations.  We love bringing people together, building connections, and growing our understanding of one another,” states Nick Wilczek, Nevada County Librarian.
