Description: Infants who have suffered perinatal opioid exposure often require follow-up interventions to address various short-term and long-term health problems, including symptoms of withdrawal, neonatal abstinence syndrome, and potential neurological and developmental issues. During this webinar, HMA expert Helen DuPlessis, MD, will outline the risks of perinatal opioid exposure, discuss best practices for ensuring an appropriate level of follow-up care, and address the need for additional research into the effects of perinatal opioid exposure.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the current knowledge about short- and long-term effects of perinatal opioid exposure
  • Explain the best practices in follow-up level of care and periodicity for prenatally exposure infants
  • Readily identify at least three categories of critical intervention services and supports for this population
  • Summarize topics and issues about which more research is needed to better understand and address the effects of perinatal opioid exposure in infants
