United Way of Nevada County recently welcomed the Family Resource Center of Truckee to the family of United Way partner agencies. The nonprofit officially became a partner agency after successfully completing a partnership review process. To be a partner with United Way of Nevada County, an organization must comply with an established set of Criteria and Responsibilities. To receive a distribution from United Way of Nevada County, these partners must further comply with an additional set of funding criteria throughout the year.
United Way of Nevada County assesses partners through financial audits and citizen review teams for compliance to these criteria, as well as effectiveness in meeting community needs. This process ensures that United Way of Nevada County’s charitable donations are allocated in ways to best make an impact in the community.
The Family Resource Center of Truckee was conceived in August 2001 by a group of public and private agencies, community parents and advocates for the underserved populations in the Truckee area. Their mission is to promote social and economic success by providing education, mobilizing resources and advocating for change. All programs build on family strengths and are delivered through strategies of prevention, education, support and networking in collaboration with other resources and partner agencies. The center serves more than 1,000 families each year through four core program areas; Family Advocacy, Early Learning & Parent Support, Promotora Health Outreach and Tahoe/Truckee Mediation & Legal Assistance.
The Family Resource Center of Truckee serves as Truckee’s one-stop location for safety net and family strengthening services. Their welcoming and knowledgeable staff provides support, case management and referrals to community members in times of need while also offering educational programs that promote healthy, thriving households. Other services include housing support, healthcare access, financial coaching, food resources, and employment support.
