Report from February 7, 2018 CSN Meeting ~ Mapping the Five Protective Factors in Western Nevada County

February 9, 2018

Many thanks to all who came to participate in our February 7th meeting, “Mapping the Five Protective Factors in Western Nevada County.” It was a fun, enlightening, and interactive gathering.

We took the first step in identifying which Nevada County agencies and other organizations provide services that support the Five Protective Factors:

  • Parental resilience
  • Social connection
  • Knowledge of parenting and child development
  • Concrete support in times of need
  • Social and emotional competence of children

We also began to identify gaps in services and resources. More to come as the process continues.

Thanks to Lourdes Vose, Sierra Nevada Children’s Services and CSN-CAPC Board Member, for facilitating the overall meeting.

Thanks to Lindsay Dunckel, Executive Director, First 5 Nevada County and CSN-CAPC Board member for facilitating our mapping process.

For our Building the Network Moment, thanks to Kristen McGrew, PARTNERS Family Resource Centers Coordinator and CSN-CAPC Board member and Phil Alonso, Project Manager, Statewide CWS (Child Welfare System) AmeriCorps Program. Kristen shared info about state and local activities planned for Child Abuse Prevention Month in April, and Phil told us about two programs at the Child Abuse Prevention Center: the AmeriCorps Programs that are inviting agencies to join their partnerships, and Strategies 2.0 Trainings and Learning Communities.

The meeting minutes will be posted on our Meetings page in the days to come and there will be a separate document that is the first draft of the mapping process results.

Next meeting: Wednesday, March 7, 2018 ~ 3:30-5 pm. Gene Albaugh Community Room at the Madelyn Helling Library, 980 Helling Way, Nevada City, CA 95959
