Every August the Community Support Network works with other local organizations to offer the Kids Corner at the Nevada County Fair. This is one of CSN’s main community events, along with the “Read To Your Child Halloween Book Giveaway.”

The free Kids Corner area is open to families with children 0 to 5 and includes age-appropriate activities for the youngest fair-goers.

Please note: It is requested that you do not bring your child/children (or grandchild/grandchildren) with you as you will be busy greeting people and handing out books. Kids Corner does not provide supervision of children. Parents and other adults are expected to be responsible for children in their care while visiting Kids Corner.

Also at the Fair…

This year the Breastfeeding Coalition of Nevada County will be hosting the Rock & Relax Lounge for the 17th consecutive year, and for the fourth year in the air-conditioned Ponderosa Hall, between the Quilt and Fiber Arts exhibits.

The Lounge makes moms feel welcome and safe and cherished. It is a cool, quiet area for moms and babies to rock and relax at the Fair in the Ponderosa Hall. The Lounge occupies a curtained alcove with rocking chairs and a changing table.  Of course, every mother and baby has the legally protected right to feed wherever they are otherwise legally allowed to be, anywhere in the Fairgrounds. This is simply a quiet, private lounge provided by the Breastfeeding Coalition of Nevada County, as a gesture of honor and respect to mothers.
Loving fathers and other men wait outside the Lounge, either in a lovely outside area with benches, or while strolling through a fascinating quilt and textile arts display in the Ponderosa Hall. The Kids Corner and little kiddie ride area are next to the Ponderosa Hall.
All volunteers staffing the Lounge are women who fully support breastfeeding–and of course, bottle-fed babies and their mothers are warmly welcome to use the Lounge as well. Some mothers even use electric breast pumps in the privacy of the Lounge. Please spread the word that there is a respite for moms and babies from the heat, dust, noise and excitement of our wonderful fair, where they can rest and feed in comfort.
